When I work with clients, or even in my own home, I will always style the console table to give the room a new look. To freshen up the space a bit, either in the entryway or living space, learning how to style a console table can truly change the feel of the room.
I have five tips to implement the perfect console table. They are my “go-to” steps and anyone can implement these ideas when it comes to styling a console table, to not only give it more height and volume but make it more appealing to the eye.
1. CREATE AN ANCHOR
An anchor is a large focal point in center of your table. It can be a mirror, a piece of art, or even a couple pieces of art/photos. I call it an anchor because it is a “heavy object” that centers the console.
2. ADD HEIGHT
Styling a table in threes (high, medium, low) is a known design rule. However, I have noticed that people are scared to add height. They might add a vase, but, keep going. Don’t be scared to add tall sticks to that vase. Another trick to adding height is to add a table lamp. I am a huge fan of adding table lamps to console tables. Not only do I love how it looks, but, you can turn them on in the evenings for a little moonlighting, rather than ceiling lights.
3. GO UNDER THE TABLE
We always read about styling the top of the table, but, do not be afraid to style under the table as well. Go ahead; add texture underneath the table. My favorite is an bench or poufs for extra seating.
4. CREATE BALANCE
Console tables are longer than end tables or side tables. When styling yours, make sure not to place everything in the middle or to one side. Create balance by adding objects to more than one side of the table, layering towards the center of the table.
5. ADD A NATURAL OR ORGANIC ELEMENT
When layering a console table we tend to stick with objects, such as books, boxes, lamps or vases. But, to give it life and more visually appealing add a natural/organic element such as an orchid, flowers, or even a terrarium. You can place these on top of a books to add height and not clutter your table too.
Maybe you just want to change up your perfectly styled console table for spring. Perhaps you have never styled your console table. Either way, I hope you can use these tips that will add height, volume and style to any space.
